Cappadocia – A Historical Journey Through Rock Cut Tunnels
קפדוקיה – מסע היסטורי במחילות חצובות בהר
In 2003, I was commissioned to design a new flagship attraction in the heart of Cappadocia, one of the world’s most extraordinary natural landscapes. Rather than creating a conventional museum, I proposed an interactive theatrical journey carved into the mountain itself, combining archaeology, landscape, drama, and technology.
Visitors were intended to follow an underground route through a space of approximately 2,000 square meters, where the history of Cappadocia would come to life through monumental sets, projections, immersive surround sound, filmed characters, and environmental effects.
The journey moved through the major periods in the region’s history, from the Hittites, Persians, Greeks, Romans, and Byzantines to the Seljuks and the Ottoman Empire, with visitors becoming active participants in the unfolding story.
The concept was to create an experience in which the real landscape of Cappadocia continues into the subterranean spaces, allowing the boundaries between nature, history, and theater to dissolve into a single continuous emotional journey.
The project combined historical research with advanced multimedia technologies and proposed a new model for a visitor center, one in which history is not simply presented, but experienced.
